What Are the Considerations for Tunnel Lighting?

In daytime, drivers entering the tunnel may face the following visual problems: just entering the tunnel, because the brightness outside the tunnel is much higher than inside, drivers see a dark hole, which is the "black hole" phenomenon; when drivers leave the tunnel, a very bright exit appears, which is the "white hole" phenomenon. LED tunnel lighting can improve the road conditions inside the tunnel, enhance visual enjoyment, reduce driver fatigue, and help improve tunnel traffic capacity to ensure traffic safety. Now, let's take a look at what needs to be paid attention to in LED tunnel lighting.

  • LED tunnel lighting should generally choose light sources with high efficiency and good fog penetration performance.

  • LED tunnel lighting can use light sources with higher color rendering index for short tunnels, tunnels near towns with fewer diesel vehicles, emergency stopping lanes, pedestrian crossings, and vehicle crossings.

  • The service life of LED tunnel lighting sources should not be less than 10,000 hours.

  • The protection level of LED tunnel lights should not be lower than IP65.

  • LED tunnel lights should have anti-glare devices suitable for highway tunnels.

  • The wires used in LED tunnel lighting should all use moisture-proof and insulated wires, and be hung securely with ceramic bottles according to the specified height. The wires should not be hung on iron nails and other metal parts or tied together. The switch should be covered with a wooden box and a sealed fuse box should be used. If a cable is used, it should also be hung securely at a high place, not on the ground.

  • The components of the LED tunnel lights should have good corrosion resistance.

  • The installation of LED tunnel light accessories should be easy to operate and the installation angle should be adjustable.

  • The lighting of each segment inside the LED tunnel lighting should be continuously adjusted and dynamically controlled according to the actual situation of the season, weather, time, and traffic flow.

  • The arrangement of LED tunnel lights in the middle section should meet flicker frequencies below 2.5Hz or above 15Hz.
